Various members of the firm regularly advise on and prepare estate planning documents including Wills, Powers of Attorney and Living Wills. We are experienced in advising and acting as Trustees and providing tax related advice on matters of estate planning, estate administration and wealth transfer. Our firm also has extensive experience in advising clients who question the validity or appropriateness of Wills or other estate planning documents of an aged parent or other person potentially under disability or influence.

Estate Planning

Members of the firm assist clients in planning their affairs to satisfy their financial desires, including succession planning and the transfer of wealth, both during one's lifetime and after death, to family or other beneficiaries in the most tax efficient manner. Planning is undertaken to minimize tax during a person's lifetime and also to minimize the tax payable on that person's demise. We strive to ensure that planning is done in a manner which takes into account our clients' total objectives.

Advice is also provided on income splitting, the manner of holding assets, the manner of taking business compensation, estate freezing, charitable giving and a host of other measures, which at times, may simply be advice to the client looking to acquire a Will, Power of Attorney or other estate planning document. Alternatively, estate planning may involve the creation of trusts, new corporations, corporate reorganizations, the transfer of assets, as well as more detailed structures and instruments.

Our firm works closely with client's other professional advisors such as accountants, financial planners and the insurance industry to provide the best advice to the client and the plan most suited to the client's needs.
